May 8, 2025. The Arctic Economic Council (AEC) proudly announces the official handover of its Chairmanship from Norway to the Kingdom of Denmark. The handover ceremony took place during the AEC Annual General Meeting in Mo i Rana, Northern Norway. This transition marks a new chapter in the AEC’s mission to foster responsible economic development and collaboration across the Arctic region.

“It has been a privilege for the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association to lead the Chairmanship of the Arctic Economic Council. We are proud of the progress made in promoting sustainable business and fostering cooperation across borders. As we pass the torch, we are confident that the Kingdom of Denmark will build on this momentum and continue strengthening Arctic economic dialogue,” says Kai Simon Eikli Yuen, Chair of the Arctic Economic Council.

The Kingdom of Denmark is strongly represented in the AEC through companies such as the Danish Industry, Danish Shipping, Arctic Business Network, and NunaGreen which will hold the Chairmanship for the 2025–2027 period. NunaGreen is the company responsible for the largest infrastructure project in Greenland. The company is responsible for developing the expansion of renewable energy in the country.

“We at NunaGreen are honoured to take on the Chairmanship of the Arctic Economic Council. As incoming Chair, I see great potential in connecting Arctic businesses through practical cooperation and knowledge-sharing,” explain Aviaaja Karlshøj Knudsen, CEO of NunaGreen.
Arctic Economic Council was established more than a decade ago and is today the only pan-Arctic business membership organisation in the region. It has members from 10 different countries representing a wide range of companies and organisations.

“This transition marks an important moment for the AEC and the broader Arctic business landscape. We thank Norway for its strong leadership and warmly welcome the Kingdom of Denmark. Together, we will continue to elevate the voice of Arctic businesses and create new opportunities for cooperation across the region. The future is not what it used to be, so during the Annual General Meeting in Mo i Rana we also discussed the way forward for The Arctic Economic Council so we can continue to be the voice of the companies operating in the Arctic,” says Mads Qvist Frederiksen, Executive Director of the Arctic Economic Council.
