Director of Arctic Economic Council Secretariat appointed

Finnish Anu Fredrikson has been appointed director of Arctic Economic Council (AEC) Secretariat in Tromsø.

– We are pleased to have put in place AECS first director, says Erling Kvadsheim who heads AEC Norway.

Anu Fredrikson is 34 and is originally from Oulu in Finland, and is looking forward to both embark on the job and move to Tromsø.

– This is an incredibly exciting job that I’m looking forward to going ahead with in the new year. It will of course be challenging but I would think that this will be an exciting journey, says Fredrikson.

Fredrikson comes from the position as political advisor at the Finnish Embassy in Oslo and has been working on behalf of Finland for the last 9 years. She has a master’s degree from the University of Tampere and has studied both in France, USA and Norway.

– Anu Fredrikson is a valuable addition for the organization and will be an important contributor to the AEC taking new steps forward, says Kvadsheim.

The Secretariat for Arctic Economic Council was opened by the Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs Børge Brende and head of the AEC Executive Committee Tara Sweeney on September 8th this year. The organization that will ensure increased business cooperation in the Arctic was formed in autumn 2014. At the inaugural meeting Norwegian industry took the responsibility to finance and build the Secretariat through AEC Norway. The organizations that comprise AEC Norway are Seafood Norway, The Federation of Norwegian Industries, Confederation of Norwegian Enterprise, the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association, the Norwegian Hospitality Association and Norwegian Oil and Gas Association.
