The International Arctic forum “Arctic: Territory of Dialogue” is organized in St. Petersburg, Russia on April 9-10, 2019. Business in the Arctic is highlighted in the event program, and as the voice of pan-Arctic business community, the AEC is also represented in the event.

AEC’s Chairman Tero Vauraste will speak about the future of the Arctic and sustainable solutions at a morning session on April 9. Later the same day, Mr. Vauraste will address issues related to transport connectivity. Mr. Vauraste will also join a discussion on development of the aviation sector in the Arctic on April 10.

AEC’s Russian Vice Chair Evgeniy Ambrosov will discuss the Arctic shelf potential and its potential and risks at a panel on April 9.

Vice Chair Heidar Gudjonsson of Iceland will address issues related to connectivity in the Arctic at a panel also featuring co-chair Marjukka Vihavainen-Pitkänen of the Arctic Council Task Force for Improved Connectivity in the Arctic. The AEC has actively worked with connectivity in the Arctic both through its Working Groups. The Working Group on Telecommunications worked actively from 2016-to 2017 and published a report “Arctic Broadband: Recommendations for an Interconnected Arctic” in 2017. This work continues with a Working Group on Connectivity led by Dr. Pam Lloyd. In addition, the AEC’s Top of the World Arctic Broadband Summits have gathered experts around the globe to discuss the opportunities related to improved connectivity in our region.

The business program of the conference also features AEC’s Russian member United Shipbuilding Corporation, whose President Alexey Rakhmanov will address technological needs in the Arctic on April 10.
