The Arctic Economic Council (AEC) will organize a side event on telecommunications in the Arctic during the Arctic Frontiers Conference in Tromsø on 24 January 2017.

This event will continue the dialogue started at the first Top of the World Arctic Broadband Summit held in Barrow, Alaska in 2016. Join the AEC and leading industry experts to discuss how to improve connectivity and the economic development in the Arctic!

Broadband is becoming a prerequisite to economic and social development. This also applies to the Arctic. Digitally connecting often remote Arctic communities is the only way of ensuring that they reach their full potential. This also supports their long-term sustainability.

Together with partners, the AEC Infrastructure: Telecommunications Working Group hosted a Top of the World Arctic Broadband Summit in Barrow, Alaska in July 2016. The discussions started in Barrow will continue during the Arctic Frontiers conference in Tromsø in January 2017 as the AEC will host a side event on telecommunications on 24 January. This side event will gather experts on their respective fields to continue discussions on the development of broadband.

The event will be moderated by the AEC Chair Tara Sweeney, and will start with a panel focusing on challenges related to connectivity in the Arctic. The format is interactive, and the floor will be opened for questions and comments from the audience. Welcome to join us at Clarion Hotel the Edge on 24 January at 17:15! For registration, please visit the Arctic Frontiers Conference website.
