ARC-GREEN is a two-year strategic project aimed at strengthening the role of the Nordic region in the development of green shipping corridors in the Arctic. The project will map infrastructure requirements, investment potential, and the framework conditions needed for operational green shipping corridors. The geographical focus is primarily on Greenland, Norway, and Finland, with close links to Denmark and Iceland. Arctic Economic Council (AEC) is the project manager of the project and in this capacity will engage with key private sector stakeholders across the region such as representatives from ports, shipping operators, energy producers, financial institutions, and international organizations to collect technical expertise and information on the challenges and opportunities for green shipping corridors in the Arctic. The project runs from September 2026 to December 2027.

Project Outputs

The Nordic Green Corridor Network: An informal network of relevant ports, shipping operators, energy producers and international partners.

SWOT Analysis: An analysis of stakeholders’ strengths and weaknesses in facilitating green shipping corridors in the Arctic.

Pre-feasibility study: A assessment to identify where the greatest opportunities are.

Position Paper: A summary of the project’s findings aimed at policymakers in the Nordic countries and the EU with the focus on green energy and investments.List item

Korea Maritime Institute is a government-funded research institute specialising in maritime transport, ports, fisheries and ocean policy.
University of Oulu is a multidisciplinary Finnish research university with strong expertise in sustainability, technology and northern development.
