ASRC is a private, for-profit corporation that is owned by and represents the business interests of its approximately 12,000 Iñupiat Eskimo shareholders in the eight villages within the region: Point Hope, Point Lay, Wainwright, Atqasuk, Barrow, Nuiqsut, Kaktovik and Anaktuvuk Pass.
Corporate headquarters are based in Barrow, Alaska, with administrative and subsidiary offices located in Anchorage and throughout the United States. ASRC, along with its family of companies, is the largest Alaskan-owned company, employing approximately 10,000 people worldwide.
The Corporation owns title to nearly 5 million acres of land on Alaska’s North Slope, which contain a high potential for oil, gas and coal. As stewards of this land, balancing management of cultural resources with natural resources is important to ASRC.
The history of our people reaches back thousands of years, and it serves as the foundation upon which we continue to build ASRC to benefit future generations. As Iñupiaq, we rely on the teachings of our ancestors, and live by the values passed on through countless generations.
The past 43 years has been a time of growth and diversification for ASRC. Although Arctic Slope Regional Corporation had humble beginnings, and there was a time the company’s leaders worked for no pay, it has been the largest locally-owned and operated business in Alaska for the past 20 years.
Consistent with the goals of ANCSA, ASRC’s earnings are employed for the benefit of its shareholders. Each year, a significant amount of earnings are distributed directly to its shareholders through dividends and other benefits. The remainder is reinvested in the company to ensure sustainable economic growth for current and future generations of Iñupiat.
Since inception, ASRC has distributed more than $825 million in dividends to shareholders and has distributed in excess of $1 billion to the other Alaska Native regional corporations as part of its 7(i) obligation.
ASRC’s mission is to actively manage our businesses, our lands and resources, our investments, and our relationships to enhance Iñupiaq cultural and economic freedom – with continuity, responsibility, and integrity.
